Last night, I was awakened by a fierce thunderstorm. Oliver was trembling, and honestly, it was so loud that it made me a little uneasy. However, there was also something calming about the sound of rain pouring and hitting the roof. I found it strange to have a thunderstorm in November, but then again, it was sunny and in the 70s over the weekend.
Naturally, as a problematic sleeper, my mind began racing with thoughts of everything I need to accomplish: orders, bills, payroll, overhead, mortgage, car, rents, inventory, taxes, caring for my 94-year-old mom, ensuring Oliver is alright, tending to my gardens, and keeping my succulents alive. You get the idea—the list is endless. Despite my desire for a simple life, it seems anything but simple, yet I manage it. Why and how? This thunderstorm, the shift in the air, the change in season, it's a rhythm.
As the seasons shift, nature unfolds a vibrant tapestry of change that resonates deeply with our inner selves (if we take a moment to sit and listen), particularly for those of us who thrive on creativity. Each season brings its own rhythm, influencing our moods, inspirations, and artistic expressions in unique ways.
I'll begin with Spring because, in my view, it's when the world comes alive again.
Spring: Rebirth and Renewal
Spring is a season of awakening. The world bursts into bloom, and with it comes a surge of energy and optimism. For many creative individuals, this is a time for fresh ideas and new beginnings. The longer days and warmer weather beckon us outdoors, inspiring us to explore new mediums. The colors of spring—soft pastels and bright florals—often find their way into our work, igniting a sense of hope and possibility. It’s the perfect season to start new projects, experiment with techniques, or dive into that artistic venture you've always wanted to pursue.
Ahh, summer my true love.

Summer: Passion and Abundance
As we transition into summer, the days grow hotter and the sunlight more intense. This season often embodies passion and abundance, igniting a fiery creativity in those who feel its warmth. The vibrant colors of summer—lush greens, bright blues, and bold sunsets—can inspire art that is loud and expressive. Creative minds may find themselves drawn to outdoor activities, festivals, and collaborations, as the energy of summer fuels social interactions and shared experiences. It’s a time for bold strokes and adventurous projects, where the joy of creation feels limitless.
Seasonal Depression creeps in, despite my usual upbeat nature. The idea of the coming cold weather and months of limited daylight puts me in a state of emergency—true story. This year, I took a different approach by fully immersing myself in my creative passions for the stores. Yoga and walking Oliver also help.
Autumn: Reflection and Transition

With the arrival of autumn, there’s a shift in energy. The leaves transform into a stunning array of warm hues, inviting introspection and reflection. For many artists, this season is about capturing the beauty of change. The dropping temperatures and shorter days encourage a more contemplative state, making it an ideal time for deep work and self-expression. Autumn is often when we find ourselves revisiting projects or refining our craft, inspired by the beauty of letting go and embracing the cycle of life. The rich, earthy colors of fall can evoke a sense of nostalgia, leading to art that tells stories and explores deeper themes.
In search of warmer weather now...this is the time to rest.
Winter: Rest and Rejuvenation
Finally, winter arrives, bringing a sense of stillness and rest. The world often feels quieter, blanketed in snow or wrapped in the cool embrace of crisp air. For the creative soul, this can be a time of rejuvenation and introspection. The stark beauty of winter inspires minimalist art, focusing on simplicity and clarity. It’s a season for hibernation, where ideas can simmer below the surface, ready to burst forth come spring. Many creatives use this time to reflect on past works, plan future projects, or simply enjoy the quiet peace that winter offers.

The concept of the rhythm of the seasons began with a thunderstorm at 1 a.m. and how do I embrace the seasonal changes? It's actually pretty amazing when you break it down and look at each season through a different lens.
Embracing the Cycles
Understanding the rhythm of the seasons allows me (and maybe you too) to align our creative processes with nature’s cycles. Each season offers distinct opportunities for growth, reflection, and expression. By attuning myself to the natural rhythms, I am understanding how to harness the energy of each season, enhancing my creativity and enriching this artistic life.
Seasonal reflection.
As you move through the year, take a moment to pause and reflect on how each season affects you. What inspires you in spring? How do the vibrant days of summer fuel your passion? What stories do the colors of autumn evoke? And how does the stillness of winter invite you to rest and reflect? Embrace the rhythm of the seasons, and let it guide your creative journey. 🌿🍂❄️🌸
Always,
